David P. Hill is the founder and president of Hill Studio, a multi-disciplinary firm in Roanoke, Virginia. Hill Studio has practices community planning, landscape architecture, architecture and historic preservation. Hill Studio combines research with practice, and, since its inception in 1988, Hill Studio has performed over 2000 projects, in a dozen states and abroad. The firm has won multiple awards from professional societies, historic preservation societies, and international development agencies.

David’s research is focused on evolution of the southern American landscape. One of his most visible products is the exhibition The Blue Ridge Parkway, which premiered at the Harvard GSD, showed at the National Building Museum, and has traveled to museums across the United States. David has served as an adjunct faculty member at Roanoke College and Virginia Tech. Beginning in 1989, his early seminars included Evolution of the American Land, and Human Values and Appalachian Land Use. David currently teaches Professional Practice of Landscape Architecture.
